Career Motivation

Do you ever wonder where your life is going?

Perhaps, like me, you dedicated nearly a decade of your life to higher education.

And now, you're in the career of your dreams, yet still trying to find your place.

Or maybe you started off with your dream job, woke up thrilled to go to work every day, and then something happened.

Something that made you doubt your choice, hate your job or your days became mundane and expected.

I've been there. I hear phrases like when you love your job, you don't have to work a day in your life.

I see people who work 30 years in one place and cry on the day they retire.

But I have yet to experience for an extended period of time.

How do you get past that? What do you do to enliven your day-to-day experience at work?

Did you really find your dream job and you couldn't ask for a better experience?

I'd love to hear your stories and inspiration on how to get over work-fatigue, boredom and burnout.

  1. Writing is a long process, and though I get impatient at times, I continue on the path I've chosen. One day, I know I'll be a published writer. For now, I'm just sitting back and enjoying the journey.

    1. That's a great attitude to have. The process is where I get frustrated. I definitely need to be more patient!

  2. I think every job, even if you love it, has boring, burdensome days. Thinking long-term helps, know that you're investing in your future. For me, I have to see purpose in my work, something significant that contributes somehow. I quit a job once b/c the only good thing about it was the money. But nothing else gave me joy. I decided I would never work solely for money again. But, that's me. :-)

    1. That's fantastic, Mare. Money won't make anyone less miserable at work, that's for sure. I appreciate the insight. Thank you!

  3. Well...since you asked so politely...I spent thirty-five years pursuing a career that began as a passion and gradually sort of fizzled into a mercenary, meandering mess! It had gotten to the point where I hated my job and most of the people I worked with! My remedy was to, as gracefully as possible, "retire" in 2006. Since then, I've rediscovered my sadly atrophied and shriveled passion and am now doing what I do for the pure love of doing it.

When Stephen Covey encouraged us to, "Begin with the end in mind," I think he was saying to focus less on the starting line, and more on the finish line. What is YOUR end game, Brittany? What will the practice of law gain you as far as quality of life? Income? Of course! Satisfaction of a job well done? One can hope. But there are far too many people existing when they were meant to live! And as one who cares about you, I want you to LIVE! Take care of that, and everything else will make sense.
